3. Administration

I (Ann-Bailey) have been in the education field for 20 years. At one point I wondered if I would want to go into administration - but spending time with principals and administrators I quickly realized that no, I had absolutely no desire to do that. I’ll take the kids and how they learn, thank you very much.

Fast forward today - July 2023. Turns out, opening a small homeschool cooperative school is nothing but administration work. And it’s painful. We aren’t surprised by this, but - wow. There is a lot of paperwork - then waiting for paperwork to be approved - then moving on with the paperwork you cannot do until you have the original paperwork approved.

Have you heard the riddle about trying to cross a river with a wolf, a chicken, and a bag of feed? It is beginning to feel a lot like trying to cross that river. Each task we need to accomplish requires another task to be accomplished first, and each task we do manage to accomplish then requires waiting on systems out of our control.

Seeing that we have a deadline of starting some sort of learning opportunity for our children by September of this year, we also have to decide when we move forward with something even if we may have to reverse course in a week or two due to situations beyond our control.

And so, we work, and wait - but work while we wait - clean, paint, set up and plan, all while researching back-up plans. Of course, we are keeping our fingers crossed that we won’t have to use them, but we know we can if we need to.

When people ask about the program, most of the answers we can give start with “As of now…” or “We hope to…”

Stay tuned…
